SBP Candidate Personal Statement: Alena Zhang

Alena Zhang, Writer

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME

My name is Alena, and I am Chinese-American. I’ve been going to Westtown since 9th grade, for a grand total of 3 years. Outside of school, I do martial arts, which I’m pretty good at, and softball, which I’m not so good at. I also love languages (learning 5), music (violin & piano), and art.

WHY I’M RUNNING

SBPs have the most power to enact change in our community, which is exactly why I’m running. There’s a lot that can be improved at Westtown to ensure that everyone feels like they belong and are appreciated. I want to focus on uplifting Westtown’s diversity and abundance of unique cultures and individuals. My personal background as a child of first-generation immigrants helps me bring a new perspective to the table. I want to advocate for every student and make sure that important issues, from cultural appreciation to sexual health, are all duly acknowledged.
