SBP Candidate Personal Statement: Carrington Allen

Carrington Allen, Writer

Hello my name is Carrington Allen. I have been at Westtown for 2 years, and I am running for Student body president. Having student leaders is important to any school community because it allows students to feel more comfortable speaking their mind and gives students another voice. Student leaders are able to connect students and teachers, and provide liaison between grades. I am running because I want to create a better community for everyone. I want students to be able to trust more than one teacher at this school, and feel comfortable opening up about issues they have at the school or things that they are excited about in their lives. Every school has their flaws, and I want to have the power to make an impact in the community. Instead of complaining about issues in the community, I would like to make things better for everyone. I love the community here. I have gotten to know so many people at this school and I have noticed that there are different groups of friends which is natural. My point is that I’ve gotten to know many different people with different needs and wants which I think is important in a student leader. My main goal as student body president would be to make everyone feel safe, loved, and included in this community. I try to be a kind and loving person, and I am very passionate about advocating for the people I love. I have an open mind to new ideas, and I’d like to think I’m a good listener. I am currently a prefect on W3, a head of Feminist Advocating for Equality, an ambassador, and a member of Students Advocating For Student Health. These roles have given me a lot of leadership experience. I have gotten experience with planning events and meetings, which was something I struggled with last year. Being an ambassador has given me experience with talking to adults on the same level, and advocating for the school. Being a W3 prefect has strengthened my love for caring for people and advocating for them. SASH has given me experience with protecting people in the community, listening to people, and a therapeutic mindset. I would love to be able to make a difference in this community. Thank you for reading.
